Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 6 : The students at government boys pahari hostel have refused to take part in the Independence Day celebrations if new uniforms were not given to them. The casual workers have also warned of protests if their salary was not released before forthcoming Eid festival.
Pertinently recently after student's protests and allegations of inadequate and below standard facilities a team of Drugs & Food Control Organisation (D&FCO) headed by District Food Safety Officers, Sanjay Bali had carried out inspection of the hostel. The team in its report said that the hostel in very bad shape and said students are not getting required facilities/served sub standard food prepared in unhygienic conditions.
Today students held protest and warned not to take part in the Independence Day celebrations without new uniforms. On the other hand casual workers also held protest and demanded immediate release of their salaries pending for the last more than 4 years. "Unlike other casual workers, we at government Boys Pahari hostels (9 in the state) performing 24X7 hours duties for the welfare of the poor students. But the authorities concerned never released our salaries regularly and the poor workers are facing many problems in meeting their domestic needs" said casual worker, Mohd Khaliq. Another worker said that Eid festival is approaching soon and our children / family members have hope for good celebrations.
"Without salary we can't celebrate Eid festival and the authorities concerned (Pahari Advisory Board) must release our pending salaries well before the Eid festival otherwise we will go on strike and for any problem to the students administration would be responsible" said Mohd Parvez.
As the warden of the hostel is on long leave, Education Department has appointed an in-charge Warden, Shahbaz Khan, but without Drawing & Disbursing powers resulting in chaos in the hostel. "A meeting with the students was held and a businessman was requested to provide the new uniforms to the students till the arrangements for the payments. He agreed for that, " said Shahbaz Khan. He added, as for as the casual workers are concerned (their salaries) a written message has been forwarded to Secretary, Pahari Advisory Board and A.Q. Mir, ACR to empower deserving officer with D&D powers so that the hostel authorities may not face financial crises.
"The communication from in-charge Warden Boys Pahari hostel will be taken up with the DDC for an early action" said ACR.
