Early Times Report
KUPWARA, Aug 12: Security has been beefed up across the north Kashmir districts in view of the recent spurt in militancy related incidents as the nation is going to celebrate its 72nd Independence Day that falls on Aug 15.
Sources told early times that, from the past few weeks, militancy related incidents have increased in all north Kashmir district including Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora.
Ahead of the Independence Day, security forces have installed barricades at various places to thwart any attempt by militants to disrupt the celebrations, a thick security blanket has been thrown around vital installations where the concerned Deputy Commissioners and other district and level officers are scheduled to unfurl the national flags and accordingly they will be taking salutes on past march parades, said sources.
They said the main venue of the Independence Day functions in the district has virtually been sealed by a large contingent of the police and CRPF personnel, so that they can keep close vigil on the movements of general public.
However a senior police official in north Kashmir said that, "from past few weeks, militants have increased their movements and that is the result various encounters happen during the recent months.
Though earlier there were reports that militants have infiltrated from across the border, and have taken shelters in the dense woods of Kupwara and Bandipora district, said official adding we have also put our men ready to combat with any anti national elements.
"We have also put special check-points at different places, after which the vehicles are being stopped for searches and for frisking of the occupants to thwart any attempts by militants to disrupt the peaceful process, said official.
Sources further said that the security grid is also relying on modern gadgetry like CCTV cameras and human intelligence to ensure a peaceful Independence Day.
All the security agencies have been directed to remain vigilant and intensify checking during day and night hours to keep the militants at bay, sources added.
