| Heavy rains create havoc in Kangrail; houses, shops damaged |   |   |   Early Times Report
  Jammu, Aug 12: Several houses and shops damaged, road washed away and vehicular movement disrupted in torrential rain in Kangrail area of Jammu district in the  wee hours of today. However, there was no report of any causality in the incident.  According to reports, heavy downpour flooded Kangrail village at city outskirts,  causing damage to many residential houses as well as shops. However, there was no  report of any causality in the incident. Official sources said following incessant rains past midnight water level of the nallah/Khad flowing through village Kangrail suddenly swelled forcing water to enter the houses in the village. Following heavy flow of water a portion of the road passing through the village, which is only link road connecting to main Jammu-Akhnoor road too was partially  washed away early this morning, a local said. Due to flash floods thick silt got accumulated in the entire area making road slippery and blocked, Raman Sharma, a local said while adding, large number of houses and shops and business establishments have been damaged. The loss to the property is in lakhs of rupees but exact loss should be immediately estimated by the government machinery is on job, Thoru Ram, another  resident said. The flash floods and cloud burst submerged the fields spread over  acres of land, said Rajesh Sharma, whose agricultural land got eroded due to  flood. The residents revealed that houses of Kali Dass, Vijay Kumar, Dwarka Nath, Thoru  Ram, Bodh Raj, Kewal Krishan, Sham Lal and many others were submersed in flood  waters and received damages due to flood. Besides this, shops of Kali Dass, Thoru Ram, Parshotam Kuma r and others received  losses worth lakhs of rupees due to flooded water.  The residents said neither the MLA Raipur-Domana Bali Bhagat nor any officers from  Civil Administration have so far visited to the village to take stock of the  situation and assess the losses. Demanding immediate assessment of the losses, they appealed the District  Development Commissioner to depute a team to prepare a detailed report regarding  the loss of property. They also appealed to the Governor N N Vohra to take  cognizance. Former Naib Sarpanch Rajan Sharma, ex-Panch Raj Kumar, Jitender Nath Sharma and  Village Numberdar Brahma Nand Sharma have demanded early repair of link road and  adequate compensation for the excessive losses to the villagers. Meanwhile, District president Jammu Rural BJP Omi Khajuria expressed concern over  the excessive losses and demanded payment of adequate compensation to the flood- affected villagers. |
