Court awards life-imprisonment in murder case

Srinagar, Oct 1: Principal Sessions Judge Srinagar Mohammad Akram Chowdhary today awarded life-imprisonment and fine Rs 10,000 to Mohammad Yousuf Mir S/O Ghulam Qadir Mir R/O Panzinara Mohalla Mirpora, Tehsil Sumbal who was facing trial in murder case. On 13.06.2009, dead body of one Abdul Gani Hajam aged about 65 years S/O Habib Hajam R/O Panzinara was found `who had been killed after torture in the intervening night of 12th /13th of June 2009. On the basis of this report, a case was registered vide FIR 103/2009 at Police Station Sumbal for the commission of offence punishable Under Section 302 RPC. Police had found during investigation that the deceased Abdul Gani Hajam had advanced a loan of Rs. 50,000/- to one Mohammad Yousuf Mir in the month of March 2009 with the written agreement that every month he shall pay an amount of Rs 10,000/- to the deceased and in case of default, would hand-over his house to him; that he did not pay the amount for a longtime to the deceased, who approached him many a times at his home with a request for payment; on 12th of June the deceased had again gone to his house, who took him towards Sumbal and when the deceased was returning towards Panzinara, he taking the advantage of darkness gave deceased repeated blows with an Axe with a motive to usurp the amount due to the deceased and killed him. Principal Sessions Judge Srinagar Mohammad Akram Chowdhary sentenced the convict to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000/-
