CUJ turns into hub of corruption, VC mum
10/1/2018 11:26:36 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 1: Millions of rupees are being spent to establish Central University of Jammu to brighten the future of young generation, but instead the varsity has become a den of rampant corruption, with the incumbent Vice Chancellor maintaining a silence.
Sources said that equipment in the varsity's Health Club has become defunct before it was put to use, because of its substandard quality.
Lambasting the VC for turning the CUJ into liability instead of an asset for the students feeling suffocated in the campus, sources said the VC takes keen interest in spending money for purchases or other works, but he is least bothered to check the quality of the equipment procured.
Citing the case of treadmill purchased for the Health Club, sources informed that when the machine failed to function, a three member committee was constituted on May 25, 2017 to look into the matter. One person from the Health Club of Amar Singh Club namely Satish was included in the committee "to save skin of the VC who often visits the club and is well acquainted with Satish."
Sources further informed that the said committee visited the Health Club on May 30, 2017 and found that the treadmill was out of order. It was mentioned by the committee members in their report that the height of the walls of club is less as against the standard height of nine feet. The committee also reportedly found that purchased equipment was of highest rates but of substandard quality "which smacks of hanky-panky in the deal struck by university administration and needs probe."
Alleging that all the norms and standard operating procedures have been thrown in the dustbin by the VC, sources appealed the Ministry of Human Resources, Chancellor of Central Universities and President of India to take cognizance of irregularities being committed in CUJ under the nose of its VC who has made the university as his fiefdom for personal gains and not for academic benefits of students. They appealed for thorough probe in the matter to earth the financial scandal there.
