BJP could turn into 'second fiddle' again by projecting Sajad Lone as new CM
10/1/2018 11:25:58 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 1: Speculations about National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party planning to join hands to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir have shaken the PDP rebel camp and separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Gani Lone.
Since the day PDP-BJP government has fallen in the state, a few politicians are working overtime to project Sajad Lone as the new Chief Minister of the state. In the 87-member assembly the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone has only two seats. But he still believes that he could be the next Chief Minister once the municipal and panchayat polls are over. He (Lone) was given a ministerial berth from BJP quota in the cabinet of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and then in Mehbooba Mufti's council of minister. Though he was "unhappy" with the portfolios given to him still he "compromised" and remained a minister for nearly three years.
Sources said that PDP and NC issuing back to back statements about the possibility of them joining hands has created ripples in the PDP rebel camp led by the former minister Imran Raza Ansari. "If PDP and NC bury the hatchet and come together Imran will be left only with his uncle Abid Ansari and one or two more people. It would prove a big setback for him," they added.
It's in place to mention here that two PDP rebels Javed Hussain Beigh and Abdul Majeed Padroo have already returned to the party fold after sorting out their differences with the PDP leadership.
A politician said, "BJP during all these years has pampered Sajad Lone and there is every possibility about the saffron party paying a heavy price for it. If BJP gets unnerved by the pitch being raised by the PDP and NC it could end up committing another blunder by supporting Sajad Lone and the PDP rebel group."
He said, "If BJP wants to pacify the people of Jammu region it should ensure that someone from Jammu becomes the Chief Minister. The party needs to ensure that it doesn't fall into the trap of Kashmir centric leaders again."
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that NC and PDP are provoking the BJP by creating a notion that both these parties would come together and have a Kashmir centric regime at place in J&K. "PDP and NC are just testing the waters and want BJP to act in a haste. If the party (BJP) takes a hasty decision and allows Sajad Lone and PDP rebels to go ahead there is every chance about BJP turning into a second fiddle and playing into the hands of Kashmir centric politicians again. "BJP leaders of the state unit are desperate to regain the power and they can make any compromise for the sake of chair," the analyst said.
