3-day Artificial Intelligence Workshop concludes at MIET

JAMMU, Oct 3: A three-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning concluded at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET).
The workshop was organized by MIET in association with Bennett University, Noida as part of India's largest artificial intelligence skilling program funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK and with a host of industry partners such as NVIDIA and Amazon. MIET is the Lead Zonal partner for J&K in the Leading India in AI initiative (http://leadingindia.ai). Prof. R.K Ganjoo, Director Colleges Development Council, University of Jammu was the chief guest at the valedictory function and felicitated 35 participants from higher education institutions across J&K including University of Jammu, SMVDU, GCET, BGBSU, Cluster University, Jammu, GDC Hiranagar, Govt. Polytechnic, Jammu and SSM College, Parihaspora.
During the workshop participants were exposed to AI and deep-learning methodologies including deep neural networks, deep belief networks and recurrent neural networks. Hands-on sessions on latest tools including TensorFlow using Keras, Pandas, NVIDIA Digit platform and NumPy using Microsoft Azure Notebooks were conducted. Participants built small applications using these tools. Open research issues in AI were also discussed by experts Dr. Sunit Gupta and Dr. Sridhar Swaminathan from Bennett University.
During the workshop the MIET research team from the Center for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CRIE) demonstrated the state-of-the-art projects on AI undertaken inhouse. These included an Amazon Alexa-based voice assistant, a placement predictor for students based on deep-learning of performance of past students, an IBM Watson-based message authenticity checking application and a driver drowsiness detector application for ensuring vehicle safety. These projects were greatly appreciated by the participants and the experts.
Prof. R.K Ganjoo, during the valedictory, complemented the MIET management for taking the initiative and organizing the workshop on such a contemporary research area. He exhorted on the participants to keep on acquiring and imparting skills to the students across J&K so that they can compete at the national and international levels. He also appreciated the research and development capabilities at MIET.
