School Edu officials under scanner for not celebrating 'Surgical Strike Day'
10/3/2018 10:57:33 PM
Early Times Report
srinagar, Oct 3: The authorities of School Education in J&K have come under the scanner for not celebrating the 'Surgical Strike Day'.
Schools across the state were directed to celebrate 'Surgical Strike Day' on September 27, 28, and 29, with strict instructions to heads of all educational institutions to submit proof of the celebrations in the form of pictures and video clippings.
The three-day events were to organised based on directions of the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry which had asked the Education departments in all states to ensure maximum participation of students in the events by organising a wide range of activities.
A circular from the ministry had desired a pledge of support from the students to armed forces by writing letters/cards to them and addressing them to the nearest army formation. The school heads had been asked to arrange free of cost blank cards for the students for writing "creative messages" to the forces.
"All the authorities shall send one page report of all the activities conducted along with pictures and videos to this office through directorates of School Education in Jammu and Kashmir and also upload the same on their respective website," reads the circular issued by Secretary, School Education, to directorates of the School Education in the state.
However, there are only few schools like Sainik and army schools, which celebrated the 'Surgical Strike Day' in the state.
An official of the School Education department said that the Centre has taken a serious note on why the 'Surgical Strike Day' was not celebrated in most of educational institutions in the state.
"The government is likely to seek application from the authorities of School Education why they could not celebrate Surgical Strike Day in the state," the official said.
The official said that officials have come under the scanner for their inefficiency. "Before seeking the explanation, the government may take action against them for not adhering the directives," the official said.
The official said the Directorate of School Education Kashmir had issued instructions to all school heads to ensure participation of students and staff in the event.
On September 29, 2016, the Army had said it carried out surgical strikes on seven launch pads across Line of Control (LoC) as a response to an attack on its base in border town of Uri in north Kashmir.
The official said that Nawa Kadal School Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh Higher Secondary School, SP Higher Secondary, S P College in Srinagar are among the prominent educational institutions which did not celebrate the 'Surgical Strike Day'.
