Early Times Report

SAMBA, Oct 3: The NCC and NSS units of Govt. Degree College Samba organized a symposium on "Truth and Non-Violence in Contemporary Society" on the eve of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatama.
As many as ten students reflected upon the universal appeal of Gandhian ideas. On this special occasion ADC Samba Dr. Arun Manhas was the chief guest. Principal GDC Samba welcomes Dr Manhas and acquainted the students as well as faculty members about the latters achievements.
While gracing the occasion Dr. Manhas spoke about the heightened communalism in the contemporary society and asserted that unless this particular communal discourse is challenged the most sought after values of fraternity and tranquility would remain distant dreams. He reiterated that if the bonds of brotherhood are not restored amongst the communities then we may witness further vivisection of our beloved country.
He asked the students to become the harbingers of peace so that the age old tradition of syncretism could prevail. Principal Dr. G.S. Rakwal while corroborating with the concerns of Dr. Manhas stressed upon value of humanity. He said our primary dharma is respect for human dignity which impresses upon us to transcend all parochial identities. The symposium ended with the declaration of results in which Ms. Priyanka stood first, Sanjeev bagged second prize, Mannat came third and Tajinder got the consolation prize. All the faculty members were also present on the occassion. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Karan Marini.
