Traditional mode of campaigning goes obsolete | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Oct 3: As the local body elections are approaching, candidates can be seen more focused and active on social media rather than on traditional way of campaigning. Earlier candidates used to visit voters in different mohallas, hold meetings and hire people to make announcements on loudspeakers. However, the trend has witnessed a change and there is a flood of advertisement posts on social media including Facebook and WhatsApp as large number of youngster contesting the polls. Campaigning on social media has reached a different level altogether, moreover, reach of smart phones and internet has totally changed the trend even candidates are finding social media more viable and cheap option as compared to traditional method of campaigning. Earlier candidates used to visit each and every house and hold a series of Nukkad meetings. But nowadays candidates are focusing more on social media as it is fast, easy and less expensive way of campaigning. However, some candidates are also visiting villages to make the voters aware. If the emerging trend is helping candidates the occupation of several people has been severely affected. "Earlier I used to earn good money during the election by campaigning for candidates on loudspeakers. But so far no candidate has approached me but I hope that someone will hire me, " Parshtom Dass said while talking to Early Times. |
