Polling patterns prove Jammu, Ladakh have nothing to do with Kashmir, trifurcation only solution
10/9/2018 11:23:26 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 9: Kashmir witnessing a low polling percentage in the first phase of Urban Local Bodies polls is an indication that people of the Valley are not interested in development and empowering the grass root institutions.
On the other hand Jammu and Ladakh regions witnessed brisk polling as people came out in large numbers to elect the counselors. "Kashmiri people not coming out to exercise their franchise should serve as an eye opener for the people who just keep on harping about Kashmir and leave no stone unturned to appease the Kashmir centric leaders and parties," said an analyst.
He said that people by staying away from polling booths have lost their right to complain. "These polls were aimed at strengthening the institutions which help the people in meeting their day to day requirements. It seems they are least interested in even helping their own cause," he added.
A Kashmir watcher said that the first phase of the ULB elections has proved that people of Jammu and Ladakh are nationalists as they don't leave any chance to be a part of any democratic process. "These polls seem to have set the tone for trifurcating Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. People of Jammu and Ladakh want their own representatives to be at the helm of affairs and don't want Kashmir centric politicians to rule them," he said.
"People of Jammu and Ladakh regions have been paying a heavy price for being linked with Kashmir Valley. This connection needs to be broken for the prosperity of both these regions," the Kashmir watcher added.
He said that the Kashmir centric politicians who have boycotted the ULB and Panchayat polls need to be told in clear terms that they have no right to hold the Chief Minister's office as they can no more survive on the boycott politics. "These politicians have no footing in Kashmir as the percentage of votes secured by them has always been low," he added.
Another analyst said that New Delhi should stop being soft towards Kashmir. "The people sitting in Delhi should acknowledge the fact that people of Jammu and Ladakh regions are least interested in what's happening in the Valley. They are Indians and would remain Indians. Their aspirations need to be respected and they should be delinked from the anti-national elements active in the Valley," he added.
He said, "If Kashmiris are not interested in India and want to follow the separatists and the Pak stooges active in the Valley then the GoI should stop worrying about their development and prosperity. People who propagate Pakistan's ideology should be isolated and left alone. The GoI just cannot allow the anti-nationals to thrive at the cost of Jammu and Ladakh regions."
