MC workers seek payment of wages

Kathua, Oct 13: Workers engaged by NGO New Line to clean city areas, are without salary for the last many months.
To make, Swachh Bharat Mission successful, the NGO has engaged Rickshaws, autos and Trolleys which moved in entire town. But the work has been suspended for last few days due to unreleased of payment to NGO. Suspension of work causes heaps of garbage, infection and smell in entire town.
Dozens of workers deputed on sanitation section of Municipal council Kathua today staged huge protest demonstration. They were seeking 4 month long payment as fare of autos and trolleys.
Anil Kumar who led the protest informed that Municipal Council Kathua tied up with a Non-Government Organization NGO New Line to collect garbage from localities. Large amount has been spent on advertisement of this scheme.
The NGO has engaged 30 load carrier auto Rickshaws and tractor-trolleys. The NGO has to pay 16 thousand per month to Autos and 30, 000 to trolleys but such amount has not been disbursed for 4 months that triggered resentment among workers whose families have badly affected. Gulzar Ahmad, another sufferer alleged on NGO to make several excuses and alleged on Municipal council to delay in the release of funds. He added that whenever workers approached MC Kathua, the officials instructed to contact NGO than stage protest demonstration at Municipal council. Workers demanded disbursement of payment unless massive strike will be held to redress the demand. When contacted to CEO municipal Council Kathua, the officer informed that NGO must pay all these workers and added that a file has already been preceded to higher authority for allocation of requisite fund.
