Early Times Report
KISHTWAR, Oct 13: A teenage girl from Kishtwar, inspired by the #MeToo# campaign, has filed a complaint against an employee of the Handloom department and his friend accusing them of blackmailing her by recording her porn videos.
The girl (name withheld) filed a written complaint in the Station House Police Officer Kishtwar on Saturday, saying that the accused met her about two years ago and proposed her to be his friend. She said that with the passage of time the accused got close to her and offered her a marriage proposal.
She said initially she was reluctant to accept the proposal, but later she agreed to it. She said the accused, taking the advantage of her innocence, took her to a hotel in Jammu and slept with her. "He captured my videos and photographs. Since then he has been blackmailing me," the girl said.
She also alleged that the accused blackmailed her and committed rape on her several times. "He even called me to his office (Office of Assistant Director Handloom) situated within New DC Office Complex Kishtwar after 4 pm where he raped me," she said.
She alleged that not only the accused but his friend also constantly threatened her to share her photos and videos on social media in case she told anyone that the duo had raped her multiple times.
Now drawing inspiration from the #MeToo# campaign she decided to file a rape case against the accused. She said that she had submitted her complaint at police station Kishtwar and that she is hopeful the accused will be arrested.
It is pertinent to mention that several women employees had filed sexual harassment complaints in Kishtwar in recent past including those posted within DC Office complex Kishtwar.
But despite clear cut directions from the successive government with regard to establishment of complaint cells within the department, no action has been initiated against the guilty officials due to political patronage which guilty officials use to escape the law.
