Uri recorded highest turnout of 75.33% for third phase of ULB polls

BARAMULLA (Uri), Oct 13: The polls for the Uri Municipal Committee has recorded highest voter turnout today of 75.33% as compared to other places where elections for third phase of ULB were held today.
The border town of Uri in this north district has recorded highest voter turnout today, the people including male and female from all walks of life have enthusiastically participated in the third phase of ULB polls that were conducted today.
A senior monitoring official told Early Times that there were total 13 wards, for which 31 candidates were in the field, 20 were male and 11 were female candidates from Uri for third phase of ULB polls.
There were 13 candidates from Indian National Congress (INC), 4 from BJP, and 14 were independent candidates, the official said,
He said that there were total 1780 male voters out of which 1328 electors cast their votes and 1772 were female voters in which 1348 females used their franchise and total 2676 electors used their votes where as 3552 were total voters, adding the polling percentage remains 75.33% in Uri municipal committee.
However sources said that thirteen wards were notified in Uri area for third phase of ULB polls including 1,2,3 wards were at GBMS Bandi, 4,5 were at ITI Laghama, 6,7,8 were at GDC Uri, 9, 10 were at GGHSS Uri, 11,12 were at GBHSS Uri, and ward no 13 was at GBPS Banjaran Uri, said an official.
The National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have boycotted the ULB polls that begin from Oct 8, in all the three provinces of Jammu and Kashmir, said sources.
Pertinently in the second phase of ULB Polls that were held on Oct 10, the highest turnout was recorded in Sumbal MC with 34.65%
In Sumbal MC of Bandipora there were total 13 wards, two were declared unopposed, where as in 11 wards, 2834 votes were recorded, and the overall percentage was 34.65% votes. Earlier in the first phase that were held on Oct 8, Kupwara had recorded 1350 (26. 3 percent) in ULB polls.
