How Omar's trusted lieutenant becomes his arch rival
NC created monster for itself
10/13/2018 10:58:35 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 13: It wouldn't be wrong to utter that the national conference created Frankenstein's monster when on March 21, 2014 it made one of its stern opponents an official spokesman of the party.
At present, when the leader in question is once again out of the party and is contesting polls as an independent candidate, he on Saturday questioned the legitimacy of none other than the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah himself for being a Parliament member from Srinagar.
As per the reports while talking to reporters after casting his vote in Srinagar on Saturday, the rebel leader said "these elections are for a credible leadership, transparency in public services and public welfare."
Saying that people in mainstream boycotting elections owe too many explanations to the people who have seen a man like Farooq Abdullah winning Srinagar parliamentary by-poll on a seven per cent turnout, Mattoo said "leader of a political party boycotting ULB and Panchayat polls is demanding shifting of a polling booth in Srinagar. What he has to do with the location of a polling booth when his own party is boycotting the elections."
The fact is that the former NC spokesman has come in his own avatar again with bashing the national conference becoming his favourite subject.
On January 7, 2012 in a local daily, this former NC spokesman wrote an article in which he had this to say: "NC started its policy of double speak early on in its political life. Sheikh Sahib's speech upon his release in Jammu was diametrically different from his speech in Kashmir - a three day long journey that gave ample space for a tactical alteration. His sentiments about plebiscite in Kashmir were frequently missing from his speeches in Delhi and Jammu."
He had stated further that 'an art that is enacted on film sets in Bombay is practiced by the twin theatrical political parties in our State in a tight race to concurrently express servitude to Delhi and share the victimhood and alienation in Kashmir.'
He had even castigated the NC over the sterilization of stray dogs here- claiming that soon contracts for stray-dog food and infrastructure will be doled out to chosen political workers of NC and PDP.
Targeting Omar and his policies used to be the central theme of Juanid before joining NC. Even over the absence of luxurious Piza huts and coffee shops in Kashmir, he targeted Omar, stating," That, but I won't tell them that our young CM thinks that the Sarai shaped "mall" is the coolest thing of the century because that would be plain out embarrassing even for a vocal critic of his like me. I don't have the luxury of multiplexes, malls, KFCs and Pizza Huts but, hey! my young Chief Minister made it to the cover page of GQ not once but twice! Now THAT almost makes up for everything!"
Stating that NC bartered the blood of 1931 martyrs for the lieu of power, he wrote on July 14, 2014 in a local daily a column titled '13th July - Eight Decades Later', "The agitation of 1931 - Martyr's Day, the blood spilled - the rows of coffins were eventually bartered for convenient nomenclatures and political power by the Sheikh family - all disguised as "pragmatism". Eighty One years later, the Chief Minister of Kashmir - incidentally the grandson of the same Sheikh Sahib of 1931, zooms to the Naqashband Sahib Ziyarat to pay "homage" to these martyrs!"
He also termed Omar's tenure as a 'lackluster', 'status-quoist', questioning in a column titled 'The theatre of dual roles published on January 7, 2012, "Has NC never formed a government on its own in J&K? And were those governments not corrupt and self-seeking?"
Juniad also has castigated NC patron Dr Farooq and Mustafa Kamal. "A year or so ago, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, in his typical nonchalant style, called his brother - Dr. Mustafa Kamal, a "loose cannon" at a ceremony at Sheikh Sahib's mausoleum. He criticized his brother's tendency to talk loose in clear, unambiguous terms. Lo and behold, a year or less later the same "loose cannon" was appointed the Chief Spokesperson of the party - an act defying both logic and reason. However, the arts of Absurdism and Duality have forever defied the boundaries of logic and reasoning. Dr. Kamal's newfound avatar of an officially authorized straight-shooting, fearless maverick was an interim character in a greater, longer play - of family members distributing the distinct responsibilities of loyalty and rebellion amongst themselves - of the age old tendency to have the cake and eat it too."
In another write-up, he says on February 4, 2012 that the twin traditional ruling families of Kashmir are the shadows of Draco. They can never slay the mythical monster that has devoured our youth, their hopes and dreams. They can never be the progenies of Theseus.
