Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal informed the members of the league that Gen Bhat GOC 15 Corps has unveiled a bust of Brig Rajinder Singh. MVC (Posthumous) Saviour of Kashmir to be installed in the old Flag Staff House at Badami Bagh Srinagar Cantt where he had lived as Brigade Commander Kashmir Brigade in 1947 before taking over as Chief of Military Staff from Maj Gen H L Scott on 24 Sep 1947. Gen Bhat while receiving the Bust said "Had it not been for his supreme sacrifice, you and I all would not have been here today". The Bust was presented by the family of Brig Rajinder Singh led by his daughter Urvashi Pathania wife of late Lt Col Sunit Singh Pathania JAK Rif.
The members were also informed that this year large number of Institutions are celebrating Accession Day and also Brig Rajinder Singh Martyrdom day as we all know he was martyred on the night of 26, - 27th after foiling the Pakistani invasion of 6000 for 4 days enabling Maharaja Hari Singh to conduct parleys for Accession with the Indian Union followed by induction of Indian Army on 27th morning at Srinagar Airport, which day is incidentally now observed as the Infantry Day because this was the first war of the Country after Independence. Thus we see credit of saving the State, enabling the Accession and landing of the Indian Arm}' all are attributed to Brig Rajinder Singh and his 100 Gallant Dogras.
