Six militants killed in two gunfights in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, Oct 25 Six militants were killed on Thursday in two separate gunfights with security forces in the Kashmir Valley, police said. While two were killed in Baramulla, four died in Anantnag. Security personnel surrounded Athoora village in north Kashmir's Baramulla district after receiving information about the presence of militants there. "As the security forces surrounded the hiding militants, they fired at the security forces triggering an encounter in which two militants were killed," a police officer said. The security forces did not suffer any casualty in the operation. The exact identity and the group affiliation of the slain militants were being ascertained although both appeared to be locals, the officer said. Four militants were killed in an ongoing operation in Arwani area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. Soldier martyred, another injured in militant attack in Tral

Anantnag, Oct 25: A soldier was martyred and another injured on Thursday late evening in a militant attack in Tral area of south Kashmir. Reports said that unknown militants opened fire upon the soldiers of 42 RR manning gate of their camp in Nadar area of Tral. In the exchange of gunfire, two soldiers were injured, they said. Both the injured were removed to army's Badamibagh cantonment hospital for treatment. However, one soldier succumbed to his injuries.

Exchange of fire continued for at least 20 minutes, they said. So far Jammu and Kashmir Police has retrieved bodiea of two militants from the encounter site, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, told media. Police said that identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained. "Three weapons have been recovered from the gunfight site," he said. According to sources, searches are underway to look for bodies of other two militant believed to have been killed in the gunfight. They said that two three militants were killed at one place while the other militant who managed to shift himself to another residentail house was neaturalized later by the security forces. Operation was underway when this report was being filled.
