Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 25: Nowadays lives of the commuters and the security personnel deployed at Poshiana check post along Mughal road are at risk due to heavy traffic congestion which sometimes lasts several hours.
Sources informed Early Times that lives of security personnel and commuters who travel on the road are at risk since the highway was thrown open for traffic.
"Even the army has time and again appraised civil administration about the risks but nobody seems bothered to take note.
A soldier deployed there said: "It was not possible to shift the post. I and my other fellow soldiers feel scared when we read the warning on the signboard erected along the road", he said and added that security personnel deployed there, work round the clock risking their lives.
"Strategically, the road is very import, and we remain alert all the time, because the road connects valley with Jammu region, and it is very sensitive area in case of militancy", he added.
"The administration finished its work by erecting signboards with warning of stone shooting and land sliding along the road, this road, plays major role to ease traffic movement, especially during closure of Jammu-Srinagar road in Ramban area", said a commuter standard in Poshiana area, and added the congestion has increased manifold due to closure of Jammu-Srinagar road in Ramban area where four laning works is underway.
"Well equipped joint check post, plays major role to keep check on anti national elements, it is not possible to shift the post, the road was officially declared open for traffic in 2012, and the post was established there for checking, but the administration forgot to take care of safety of public and security personnel", they added.
Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Principal Secretary, Transport Department when contacted said that preventive measures would be taken. "I have heard about this issue, and I will take up with Concerned Deputy Commissioner and the authorities of Mughal Road Project", he added. When contacted, Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Rahul Yadhav said that the upgradtion of the road has been approved by the Government. "One kilometre stretch (from 13 to 14 kilometres) upward from Bufliaz to Peer Ki Gali, is vulnerable for land-sliding and stone shooting, but to execute works, we need to close the road, and due to heavy rush of traffic it is not possible till December end", he said.
