The Advisor sought details of the steps/measures initiated in this regard by the departments involved in the process. Threadbare discussions were held on various issues related to strengthening of the mechanism for traffic management and ensuring proper regulation of traffic rules.
Discussions were held on status of establishing Jammu & Kashmir Road Safety Fund, strengthening of MVD and Traffic Departments with additional manpower/infrastructure, engagement of educational institutions in generating awareness among masses, involvement of NGOs dealing with Road Safely issues, role of NYCs, NCC & NSS, automation in the management of traffic including installation of traffic lights under Intelligent Traffic Management System and other important related issues.
Secretary Youth Services & Sports informed the meeting that about 1000 NYC volunteers have been deputed with the traffic police who will be further deployed on duty to assist traffic police personnel in urban as well as in rural areas.
The Advisor directed the traffic police to utilize their services to the fullest after giving them proper training to deal with management and regulation of traffic.
It was also decided that in addition to this, 100 more NYC volunteers would be provided to Motor Vehicle Department for the same purpose.
With regard to the already launched Road Accident Data Management System (RADMS), an automated software-based solution that has developed to create a platform for on-the-spot collection of standard and accurate road accident data immediately after a mishap, it was suggested that all the police stations be involved in the process for yielding better results.
