29th GB meeting of SMVDCN held

Jammu, Oct 25: The 29th meeting of governing body of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, was held here and deliberated on various measures for developing this institution as a centre of excellence in imparting top quality nursing education from Under-Graduate to Ph. D. level.
It is pertinent to mention that the SMVDCoN, as part of its 10-year Vision Plan, is working out modalities for starting M. Sc. Nursing Programme in this college by 2020 when the first batch of B. Sc. Nursing students of the Session 2016-17 pass out.
The meeting also took stock of the construction of infrastructure of the SMVDCoN and expressed satisfaction at the pace of construction of the upcoming hostel blocks and residential accommodation for the staff besides, the link road to the various buildings planned for the college. The GB was informed that the infrastructure will come up as per the envisaged timelines in sync with the emerging requirements. The meeting was chaired by Maj. Gen. S. K. Sharma (Retd), Member Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the College of Nursing; and Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO; Dr. V. Verma, Dean, SMVDU; Dr. (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Administrator of the SMVDCoN; Dr. J. P. Singh, Senior Consultant, Neuro Surgery, SMVDNSH; M. M. Gupta, Chief Engineer of the Shrine Board; and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the College of Nursing; participated in the deliberations.
While reviewing the various activities organised by the SMVDCoN during the past month, Chairman of the Governing Body stressed that in every semester the students should undertake at least one visit to a village in the area under outreach programme and opined that based on the health need assessment so carried out, medical camps could be organised in these villages for the benefit of the inhabitants of the area.
