Accession Day Celebration: Prof Bhim Singh chairs meeting of State Legal Aid Committee
10/25/2018 11:12:01 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 25: A meeting of the senior Panthers Party leaders and Advocates met here this afternoon and expressed surprise on the broken facts regarding the J&K Accession and its history.
The meeting of the State Legal Aid Committee presided over by Prof. Bhim Singh, Executive Chairman of State Legal Aid Committee and Sr. Advocate Supreme Court of India disagreed with the statement made by "50 prominent citizens" and reported in a section of press. The 50 prominent citizens made, as reported in the press a statement that Accession of J&K with India falls on 26th October, 1947 and further stated that Instrument of Accession acceding, to India was ratified by the J&K Constituent Assembly on 6th Feb., 1954. The State Legal Aid Committee rejected this presentation which neither coincide with the history nor with the facts. Lord Mountbatten the then Governor General of India accepted the Instrument of Accession on 27th October, 1947. This rejects the statement mentioned above by the said prominent citizens, who have stated that Accession of J&K falls on 26th October. Needless to mention, Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah then Prime Minister of J&K was dismissed and jailed, by the then Sadar-e-Riyasat Dr. Karan Singh. The facts conveyed by the prominent citizens are totally misplaced as the Accession was signed by Lord Mountbatten on 27th Oct., 1947, the only competent authority. The so called J&K Constituent Assembly had no relevance, locus or competence to touch the Accession as Accession was signed by the Maharaja on 26th and accepted by the competent authority on 27th October.
After this neither Parliament nor any sub-committee constituted in any state had any competent or Constitutional authority. The State Legal Aid Committee expressed hope that the 50 prominent citizens may relook into the history and the Constitution.
