11 KV live wires remain there to haunt widow

Jammu, Oct 26: The much touted slogan of BJP, "Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas" has failed to awake its own legislators from deep slumber, who have refused to listen pleas of a widow to save her family and cattle from 11 KV live wires, passing two feet above her main gate.
Devo Rani (45) widow of Late Sham Lal resident of village Jarh Suchetgarh, has two sons, who are working as labourers in a brick kiln. She has few marlas of land and to supplement her meagre income, she has kept a cow. But one day, her cow had a miraculous escape when a live wire fell on it. "Fortunately the power was off and I kept the wire aside with a dry wooden log", Devo Rani said, adding that during the day time, his sons are usually out and it has become a threat to her life.
She further said that time and again live wires broken down and fell in her courtyard. "Earlier the wires were hanging and were touching our heads but later we made some wooden poles and gave support to wires", she said.
She further says that they have been appealing the lineman for the last many years to shift the wires but except assurances, nothing has been done.
"Finally we called on Sub Divisional Magistrate RS Pura Naresh Sharma, who issued on spot directions and forwarded our application to Power Development Department for action", she said.
Son of Devo Rani informed Early Times that they took up the matter with Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), who informed that he had not received any application from SDM. "After one week, once again we called AEE, he again respond in negative and asked about the issue", he said, adding that they informed him about the same and once again got the assurance.
The family members further said that it has been now more than one and half month but none has come to visit the home to shift the wires. "Whenever wind blows, the live wires stated dancing and become a threat to our family as well as cattle as anytime they can fall", they said, adding that it appeared that poor have no right in this constituency and how the voice of poor was muzzled, only they could tell.
They further said that when the BJP legislator had come to village for seeking votes, he had given slogan of Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas. "We illiterate poor people were happy but in the last four years, not even the live wires were shifted by the department, what more can we expect from them", they said.
Assistant Executive Engineer Manjeet Singh blamed the people for the problem as they have made their house under the electric wires without taking permission of the department.
Contradicting the claims of AEE, the family members said that they have been residing there for the last over five decades and electricity wires were installed later. The department is not taking action as we are poor and illiterate and unable to pursue the matter in front of higher authorities.
Sub Divisional Magistrate RS Pura, Jagjeet Singh said that he has recently joined the RS Pura office but assured to take proper action soon.
