Snow, rains disrupt vehicular movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway, Mughal road

Jammu/Srinagar, Nov 2: Following the incessant rains in plains and fresh snowfall in the high altitude areas including Pir Ki Gali, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Drass and Pahalgam, the traffic authorities have closed the Mughal Road for vehicular traffic, while as the Srinagar Jammu highway has been thrown open for one way traffic.
The spokesman said that the movement of passenger vehicles(LMVs) on the Jammu- Srinagar NHW shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) towards Srinagar after 0400 hours up to 1500 hours and shall be cross Jakheni (Udhampur) up to 1700 hours.
No movement of any passenger vehicle shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) after 1500 hours and from Jakheni (Udhampur) after 1700 hours to avoid congestion on the NHW/ safety of the passengers. However, the commuters are requested/advised that avoid traveling during night hours.
Similarly the movement of (HMVs) Load Carriers/PSV (like buses, Sleeper coach etc.) Shall be one way only. Tomorrow on 02.11.2018 movement of these vehicles shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu only after the tail of Up convoy crosses Jawahar tunnel/Zig and there from it shall be regulated. These vehicles shall not be allowed to halt between Jawahar Tunnel to Nashree Tunnel .
In case of adverse weather/road condition, the decision regarding the movement of traffic or otherwise on NHW shall be taken by the concerned SSP Traffic on the spot as per the situation.
The Mughal road- connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with south Kashmir's Shopian district was closed on Thursday afternoon following the inclement weather.
An official earlier said, "We have closed the road for vehicular traffic due to slippery road conditions in view of the rains and snowfall." The road will be re-opened once the weather conditions improve, the officer said.
Snowfall occurred in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday while rains lashed the plains, a Met official said.
"Fresh snowfall has occurred in Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Kargil and Drass today (Friday) while rains lashed the plains in the state," Sonam Lotus, Director of the state MET Department told .
"Same weather conditions are likely to continue during the next 24 hours."
Snowfall in the Zojila Pass has closed the Srinagar-Leh highway while the Mughal Road connecting the valley to the Jammu region has also been shut for traffic.
Lotus said the minimum temperature was 5.5 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, 0.7 in Pahalgam, minus 2 in Gulmarg, 2.9 in Leh and minus 5.2 in Kargil.
The minimum temperatures in the Jammu region were: Jammu city 15.8 degrees Celsius, Bannihal 6.4, Batote 5.8, Katra 13 and Bhaderwah 5.6.
