Anantnag, Nov 2: A committee comprising members from various organizations have been framed to probe allegations against former Mirvaiz South Kashmir Qazi Ahmad Yasir.
According to details, Committee comprises members from various religious organizations, trade Union Anantnag, Anantnag Bar Association and Anantnag civil society members.
Members of high level committee, constituted to look into allegations, include Moulana Showket Ahmad Keang, Patron Minhaj-ul-Islam Moulana Ghulam Mohiduin Naqeeb, Sout-ul-Alwliya Chairman Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Moulana Qamar-u-din Owaise, Members of Anantnag Bar Association- Advocate Fayaz Ahmad Sodagar and Advocate Abdul Mujeeb, Tahreek-e-Hurriyat Leader Hafizullah Mir, Trade Union President Ghulam Nabi Shah, Zaffer Farooq Salati and Karwan-e-Islami President Syed Ghulam Mohmmad Geelani.
Moulana Showket Ahmad Keang will head the committee and probe the matter, they said.
Islamic Research Institute (IRI) Patron, according to reports had approached Mutahed Ulama Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat and requested them to probe the matter.
Last month, a video showing former Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir performing obscene act with a girl during an online video chat, went viral. Yasir was seen masturbating in the video while chatting with an unknown female.
Following the incident, Yasir was removed as Mirvaiz South Kashmir by Islamic Research Institute (IRI).
The decision to remove Yasir as head preacher was announced by his maternal grandfather and patron of the seminary (institute) Alhaj Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah in a video released on social media.
"We feel ashamed of the allegations that have come forward. So, keeping in view the aspirations of people, we are removing him (Yasir) from the post of Mirwaiz (south Kashmir)," Abdullah announced.
He however said "if at all these allegations are proved right", then his family has no association with him. "Idara-i-Tehkeeqat will run the affairs of the Jamia Masjid as many ulema (religious scholars) are there," Abdullah said in the video.
Qazi Yasir, who was later booked under PSA and shifted to Jammu jail, didn't respond to the allegations.
