Several years on, three colleges in Rajouri still function without own buildings
11/3/2018 10:44:22 PM
Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Nov 3: In a recent decision, the high powered committee has approved opening of 28 degree colleges at different locations of the state and one college among these was sanctioned for Doongi-Chatiyar-Kallar in district Rajouri.
Six government colleges, including Post Graduation (PG) College at Rajouri, Kalakot, Thanamandi, Nowshera, Budhal and Sunderbani are already functioning.
However, three colleges out of six don't have their own buildings and are running in limited rooms of higher secondary schools at Kalakot, Sunderbani and Budhal.
MA Asad, DDC along with ACR, Tehsildar Rajouri and other senior officers today visited proposed site today to review the status and taking stock of other aspects of the 74 kanals of land at Sasalkote/Derian near Doongi village.
He directed all the concerned officials/officers to remove all bottlenecks to start the construction work at the earliest.
The building for Budhal College is almost at the verge of completion. PWD (R&B) wanted to handover the building to college administration but the principal has refused until the building was fully furnished and ready for use.
"The boundary wall is still incomplete, main gate was not erected , the building is incomplete and rain water enters the rooms in the ground floor while PHE and PDD departments are yet to restore water and power supply," said an official.
Pertinent to mention that despite sanctioning of science subjects, the classes in colleges at Sunderbani, Kalakot and Budhal couldn't be started due to lack of own infrastructure.
"Poor students who wanted to adopt science subject are forced to adopt art subject because they can't afford lodging and other expenses at Rajouri or at Jammu," said a student.
People of Darhal, Manjakot, Kotranka have already been holding protest since long for the sanction of Government College at their locations.
But for unknown reasons (may be political) the college was announced at Doongi-Chatiyar-Kallar. The time will tell that college at Doongi will have its own building before commencing of the classes or it will also run in HSS at Doongi.
