Curfew relaxed for two hours in Kishtwar, lifted in Doda

Kishtwar, Nov 3: Curfew was relaxed for two hours Saturday in Kishtwar township of Jammu and Kashmir where it was imposed as a precautionary measure on Thursday night following the killing of a senior BJP leader and his brother by suspected militants, officials said.

Advisor to J&K Governor K Vijay Kumar, accompanied by Home Secretary R K Goyal, Director General of Police Dilbag Singh, and Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma reached Kishtwar in a state chopper to review the situation following the killings. They held a meeting in the office Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar which was also attended by local legislators-Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Bali Baghat and Firdous Tak-and officers from police and army.
The authorities imposed curfew in Kishtwar and parts of Doda and Bhaderwah to maintain law and order after the killings triggered massive protests. Internet services in the curfew-bound areas were also suspended to prevent spreading of rumours and tensions in the area. The army continue to stage flag march in the sensitive areas to help the district administration to maintain law and order.
Keeping in view 10th class examination, the authorities allowed the students to write the exams and roll number slips has been treated as "Curfew pass". Many students though complained that they faced difficulties to reach exam centres due to non-availability of transport.
Speaking to media persons about the killings, K Vijay Kumar said: "We are on job. It is premature to say anything at this movement." BJP legislator Sunil Sharma termed the killings of Parihar brothers as security failure and demanded a high level probe led by the NIA. He also demanded installation of security bunkers in interior areas of Kishtwar town, establishment of counter intelligence unit headed by a credible officer on the pattern of SOG to tackle militancy in the district. He said that all the four legislators unanimously condemned the incident and demanded NIA probe.
MLA Inderwal G M Saroori said he demanded impartial probe into the incident and added that even imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar Farooq Ahmed Kichloo and Jamaat-e-Islami condemned the killings and called for unity among the both communities.
PDP spokesperson and MLC Firdous Tak also condemned the incident and termed it as a security lapse on the party of the administration. He said that late Parihar was a protected person and added that his security was not enough to save his life and called for strengthening of the security of the protected persons.
Meanwhile, the curfew was relaxed for one hour in phased manner in Kishtwar town and its peripheral areas. The people were seen rushing to market to purchase eatables and other food items during the break.
