JAMMU, Dec 8: In a tragic fire incident that took place in Jakyas area of Gundow Sub Division in Doda District last mid night, a multi story shopping complex was gutted resulting into the loss of property worth several lakhs.
As per the details available with Early Times, fire broke out at Akhyarpur Jakyas in a shoping complex owned by Puran Singh Rana at around 11 PM Friday as a result of which hardware shop owned by Mushtaq Zargar, Saloon/hair dresser of Kailash Singh, hotel belonging to Sajjad Butt, shoes shop of Pupu Singh, Fruit shop of Shoket Malik, hardware shop of Wajahat Zargar, medical shop of Mansoor Malik, store of Rafiq Tak and others were completely gutted.
As soon as the fire was noticed by the people, they immediately rushed to the spot and started rescue and relief operation, but due to non availability of fire service the shopping complex could not be saved. The adjoining buildings including community health center were saved due to timely action of locals. The angry people today held a strong protest against the government and the administration for their failure in establishing the fire service station in Gundow area. They said that despite repeated requests to the Government, they failed to fulfill the demand even after several fire incidents took place in the area since last several years.
Former MLA Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori said that he along with other legislators raise the demand from time to time with regard to opening of fire service station at Sub Divisional and Tehsil level.
He said that the issue was even raised in the assembly since last several years, but government fail to fulfill the same. He also demanded adequate compensation for the affected persons.
