Cong toes Mehbooba's communal line, opposes divisional status to Ladakh by Governor's administration

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 8: Virtually toeing line of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Congress also indirectly opposed granting divisional status to Ladakh region.
Instead of supporting the move to fulfill long pending demands of the residents of whole Ladakh region including Leh and Kargil, Congress is playing politics on this highly sensitive issue to address its constituency in Kashmir at the cost of other regions of the State.
A day after former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti gave warning to the Governor's administration against granting divisional status to Ladakh, Congress also issued statement on similar lines.
Interestingly this statement has been issued without mentioning name of any leader.
"Congress has favoured the creation of a separate division for Ladakh region in view of its administrative accessibilities, locational disadvantages and vast area but raised doubts about the timing and procedure for the same, during Governor's rule", mentioned in the statement issued today.
Reacting to the situation arising out of this issue, JKPCC has said that Ladakh region has a long pending demand for up gradation of administrative facilities and creation of separate division in view of various hardships faced by the people of the frontier area. The demand was put forth forcefully by the people of Leh and Kargil during the visit of high powered Congress Policy and planning group headed by Dr. Manmohan Singh during its visit and it found favour in view of its justification based on various qualifying parameters.
"However in view of the timing and procedure for the same, there is bound to be some controversies and resentment in various other areas deserving to be considered for the similar demands of better administrative convenience. The major policy decisions need to be considered when an elected government is in place so that the demands and aspirations of every area is duly considered on its own merit for just decision", party aruged.
The party has cautioned the people against any attempt to create division in the background of the situation as the broader unity of the state and all three regions is to be maintained at all costs, while respecting the aspirations of the various heterogeneities in the state and its regions. The party opposed any attempt to create disunity or disharmony in the society under the garb of seeking administrative facilities.
