Kashmir centric parties join hands to keep Jammu, Ladakh at bay
12/8/2018 10:57:34 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 8: Kashmir centric parties after losing power have started showing their true colours, both National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party are demanding that Jammu and Kashmir should be divided on communal lines.
PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has demanded divisional autonomy for Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and other districts which fall beyond Jawahar tunnel.
On the other hand National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has said that if his party is voted to power, it will grant autonomy to various regions of the state.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Both these parties want to hijack the regions where the population of the members of a particular community is on the higher side and want to leave Jammu and Ladakh regions out. This is a sinister plan aimed at pitting one community against another. Both these parties are trying to divide the people on religious lines to secure more votes in the forthcoming Assembly and Parliament elections."
He said, "Both the parties seem to have entered into a covert alliance to keep the people of Jammu at bay so that they can rule Jammu and Kashmir without the nationalist parties. If it happens it can have far reaching consequences and can lead to Jammu and Ladakh regions being ignored."
A politician said, "If the delimitation is not done it can prove detrimental for the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions. Their representatives will have to sit in the opposition and Kashmir centric leaders will call the shots. The Central government should take a serious note about this issue and ensure that Jammu and Ladakh regions get their due share."
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government has to do lot of work before it completes its first time in the office at Centre. "If it (PM Modi led government) fails to clip the wings of the Kashmir centric parties there is every possibility about PDP and NC coming together and playing havoc with the demography of the state," the politician added.
Another analyst said that "divisive agenda" of the Kashmir centric parties is crystal clear they are working out a plan to be in power and then dictate terms to Centre. "Had Governor Satya Pal Malik allowed NC and PDP to come together and form the government both these parties could have worked on the agenda to sideline Jammu and Ladakh regions. These parties have made their intentions clear and they need to be stopped before they succeed in dividing the state on communal lines," the analyst added.
