  Udhampur, Dec 8: Villages Carkhoo, Chugal ,Keri  , in Panchayet Ghordi Khass west in  district Udhampur , remains untouched by development. Be it road connectivity, medicare or drinking water, the villagers have access to none. Located hardly  at a distance of  35  kms from district  headquarters ,  there is no road connectivity  which subjects the villagers to inconvenience. The only source of water is a nullah, located near the village. Consumption of the untreated water from the nullah has led to outbreak of waterborne diseases.  Moreover, adding to their woes is absence of health facilities; the villagers either depend on traditional medication or carry the patients to the nearest hospital on their own. With all government offices including Rural Development, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, Public Works, Minor irrigation and agriculture fail to avail any advantage from its proximity to the Village an elder of the village said. Jiya  a local  said that hundreds of  persons  belonging to ST  has made no difference. The villagers depend mainly on livestock but lack of veterinary  hospital  adversely affects  their prized animals. The locals further said that the villages lack a high school. The children especially the girls have to travel long distances to reach the schools. The villagers have sought adequate and appropriate measures.  |
