2-year-old girl among 13 killed in bus accident in Poonch

POONCH, Dec 8: year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were among thirteen persons were killed and 15 others injured on Saturday when a passenger bus skidded off a road and fell into a deep gorge in Poonch district officials said.
The bus, on way from Loran to Poonch, lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curve and rolled down into a 100-meter gorge, the police official said.
Chief Medical Officer Poonch Dr Mumtaz Bhatti said 13 people were killed and deceased have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad (32), Afia Parveen(02), Parveen Akhtar (35), wali Mohammad (72), Ghulam Hussain (52), Basahir Ahmed (38), Shariefa Be (40), Nazia Akhtar (17), Gulshan Akhtar( 21), Mohammad Yousuf (26), Bashir Ahmad (50), Abdul Rashid (45), Mohammad Rashid (55) and Mohammad Yasar (10).
Official sources said that 15 people were injured in the accident and eight among the injured were shifted to GMC&H Jammu for specialised treatment.
Six persons were found dead on the spot and five more succumbed to injuries while being evacuated from the spot, the officials said, adding that two more succumbed to injuries at a local hospital.
They said condition of four of the injured persons was stated to be critical and are being airlifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu for specialised treatment.
Locals hailed the swift action by the police headed by SSP Poonch and district administration in pressing ample number of ambulance and arranging helicopters. The Deputy commissioner Poonch.
Governor Satya Pal Malik expressed grief and anguish over the loss of precious lives in the tragic road accident.
In his message, the governor has prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families. He has wished speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
