Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir National Conference leader and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Monday challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party to announce their chief ministerial candidate if the people in the Valley give them a mandate. The leader of opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly accused the BJP of deceiving the people of Kashmir by rejecting their mandate twice.

"I challenge the BJP to announce their chief ministerial candidate in the upcoming elections because they have cheated the people of Jammu and Kashmir twice... The people deserve to know whom the BJP will make the CM if they give 25-26 MLAs to the BJP," Abdullah said.

Earlier this month, he said his party didn't want to form the government to enjoy power but because they wanted to protect all that Governor Satya Pal Malik is doing. “We wanted to defend 35A, this government was not going to sustain for long, it had to topple one day and elections had to be done,” Abdullah had said.

He added that the NC-PDP-Congress came together despite differences as they were not hungry for power but were worried about the well-being of the state and its people.

"I don't think the people of Jammu and Kashmir are ready to be deceived once again, which is why the BJP is escaping elections," he said today.

Meanwhile, JKNC chairperson and father of Omar Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah, met top opposition party leaders across India do etch a strategy ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
