Villagers seek enquiry against involved officials

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 11: At least 18 people had got their names entered in the voter list of a ward of a Panchayat, which were later cancelled after intervention of Sub-divisional Magistrate but villagers have sought action against involved officials.
The residents of ward number 5 of Gandu Chak of panchayat Parladpur of block Mandal Phallian of district Jammu, informed Early Times that a total of 18 names were fraudulently entered in the voter list by the officials, involved in making of the voter list before Panchayat elections. The issue was taken up with the Sub-divisional Magistrate Marh, who after enquiry cancelled all the 18 names, but the villagers have alleged that the fraudulent list was prepared by some officials, whose close relative was contesting elections from Gandu Chak.
"The Booth Level Officer (BLO) had reportedly prepared the fraudulent list as his mother was contesting the elections", Naresh Kumar of Gandu Chak alleged, adding that though the list has been cancelled but so far no action has been taken against the BLO, who had committed the crime.
Another resident Rattan Singh of Gandu Chak alleged that at they did not only prepar the fake voter list but despite completion of all formalities, they did not include several genuine names in the voter list only to give benefit to their relative.
Sub divisional Magistrate Marh Tariq Hussain said that he had received a complaint about the fake voting list. "After an enquiry the voter list was cancelled", he said, adding that they were actually nomads, who were residents of Sanasar and settled in Gandu Chak during winters.
Before becoming a voter of panchayat, a person must be voter in assembly elections, so these nomads were probably residents of Sanasar, so their votes were cancelled here, he said, denying any deliberate involvement of any official.
Village Level Worker (VLW) of Gandu Chak Mangal Singh said that those people, whose names have been cancelled, were actually the residents of their area but due to pressure from a group the voter list was cancelled. Block Level Officer Ravi Kumar said that VLW made the voter list and BLO has to verify the same.
