BJP's 'shock defeat' rattles former MLAs

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 12: Resurgence of Congress in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, has sent the alarm bells ringing in the BJP camp in Jammu and Kashmir.
Saffron party suffering a "shock defeat" in the recently held assembly elections in these states is a strong message to BJP leaders that their policies have proved "counter-productive" and they could be punished for not fulfilling the promises they had made to people prior to 2014.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It's too early to write off BJP in the Centre as there are still a few months left for BJP government to complete its term and we cannot say that this would have any direct impact on the results of the parliamentary polls but for state BJP leaders this is a clear message that they could face the defeat in the forthcoming assembly elections due to their non-performance."
He said, "Assembly polls and Lok Sabha polls are entirely different exercises. The BJP leaders who shared power with Peoples Democratic Party for more than three and a half years in Jammu and Kashmir have nothing to show. Their performance has been dismal and they may end up on the wrong side of the fence."
A politician said that BJP leaders during the past three years have given enough space to local parties in Jammu to regroup and highlight the discrimination being faced by the Jammu region. "Results of the recently help municipal and panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir have not been in favour of the BJP and if the same trend continues the saffron party would find it difficult to retain its seats in Jammu region," he added.
According to the media reports the Sangh Parivar has taken a strong note of the "arrogant" behavior of the BJP leaders. "The Sangh Parivar has asked the BJP to give new faces a chance and discard the old horses, whose performance has been below par," the media reports claim.
An observer said that BJP losing assembly elections in Rajashtan, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh is a warning for the top BJP leadership in New Delhi. "People of these states have rejected their local MLAs and case is somewhat similar in Jammu region also. There is every possibility about people rejecting their local MLAs if they are once again given the mandate to contest the elections," the observer added.
He said, "Former BJP MLAs are aware of the fact that they are on the weak wicket. To gain the attention of the people they are trying to indulge in publicity stunts but it won't help their cause."
