Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 12: Even as a senior Hurriyat leader is under the scanner of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for alleged Hawala deals worth crores, his son has been given "VIP security' including a SUV by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Official sources said whereas the Budgam residence of this Hurriyat leader has been raided numerous times by the NIA teams, his son who is not any known figure, has been given police protection and a brand new SUV.
Sources said while the previous PDP led Government had given the "undue security" to the son of the Hurriyat leader as a part of a "secret political deal" with the Hurriyat leader who lives in Budgam town, the Governor’s rule has continued with the incentives showered on the son of the said person.
Sources said the SUV given to the son, is "fully loaded and is given around 40 liters of petrol from the Jammu and Kashmir Police everyday."
"Apart from SUV, this person enjoys other police escort as well. You can say he is almost in Y Category of police protection," a senior official told Early Times.
The official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the issue of giving security to a man whose family is already under scanner for Hawala transactions was a mockery of the system.
Sources said both the father and the son have been under scanner for visiting Pakistan and other countries including Iran in connection with the hawala deals.
"There are numerous inputs that apart from his father even the son is involved in such transactions but the irony of the situation is that such traitors who have been waging war against the country are enjoying police protection of the level of VIPs," the official added.
Sources said though the matter of "undue" political security to the "hawala dealers" was discussed at the high level meetings chaired by the Director General of Police, no "remedial measures" were taken.
"Why should a traitor be given police protection at the expenses of the state exchequer? Is it not treachery with the blood of martyrs who laid down their lives for the country," asked one senior officer on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the Prime Minister's office and the Union Home Ministry are likely to seek a report from the State Government over such complaints. "Lok Sabha elections are round the corner, the ruling party at the centre cannot afford to let police work this way where traitors and other anti-nationals are given VIP benefits," said a source in the Home department of Jammu and Kashmir government.
Sources said the Central Government would be seeking explanation from the state government through Raj Bhawan's Advisor K Vijay Kumar, who is looking after the home affairs that as to how come such favors were being given to the "traitors".
"Many developments are expected on this front in the coming days," said a source in the Raj Bhawan.
Despite repeated attempts the concerned couldn't be contacted for comments.
