Excise and Taxation team attacked, offenders escape unhurt

Jammu, Dec 20: The team of Excise and Taxation department team led by senior officer laid a check point on Bajalta road and alongside the railway track to check the illegal activities in the area after receiving specific input about some illegal activities.
A video clip has been surfaced on the internet showing how the drivers tried to harm the excise team.
A senior officer of Excise and Taxation said that on Wednesday in the early morning when our team noticed some movement near Bajalta Morh road on the national highway. Out team signaled the load carrier driver to stop but the driver jumped the check point and headed towards Acharaya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) hospital on national highway. He added that in the mean time two more drivers jumped the check point and rushed to the same spot. After chasing them all the three drivers drove to the Ragoora road and stopped the vehicle. In no time all of them started pelting stones and called their supporters from adjacent area and they too joimned them.
Officer said that the team led by the Additional Commissioner, State Taxes, Shahid Saleem and Deputy Commissioner (Vigilance and Inspection) Jammu Rakesh Magotra reached on the spot along with other members. All the three vehicles fled away towards Ragoora village along with loaded consignments suspected to be two vehicles of Liquor and one vehicle of Bovine animals.
He added, "One of the vehicles with bearing no JK08F-9894 surfaced again with empty carrier on the national highway near Narwal yard and was apprehended along with the driver, but later a large number of people assembled near railway station and took away the vehicle and the driver".
Excise department was led by Inspector G.P Singh and Dheeraj Kumar, Sub Inspectors Surinder Singh Bagal and Paramveer Singh.
