Dr Dharminder distributes blankets among poor, houseless

Jammu, Jan 3: Dr. Dharminder Kumar, Associate Professor and a renowned cardiologist alongwith Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Bhat, Assistant Professor, Cardiology have distributed blankets among the poor and houseless and also issued health advisory for the heart patients following severe cold weather conditions.
In a press communique issued here Dr. Dharminder has said that severe cold weather conditions can increase your risk of a heart attack. He said that when you are outside in the cold, your heart works harder to keep you warm - leading to increased heart rate and blood pressure. This can cause heart problems, especially if you have an existing heart condition. If you aren't used to regular exercise severe cold condition may put you at risk for a heart attack. Dr. Dharminder has said that in severe cold weather conditions arteries of the body get slightly constricted and tendencies of clot formation increases. He said that patients of hypertension have chances of increase in blood pressure. Patients of coronary heart disease have increased chances of angina and heart attack (Myocardial Infarction). The doctors have advised the masses in general and the heart patients in particular to limit their exposure to cold weather and keep themselves covered properly with warm cloth in layers. They advised people to cover head with warm cap or hat, hands with gloves and feet with warm socks. They also advised not to get yourself overheated and avoid consumption of alcohol. In case any problem persists immediately rush to a doctor for further consultation, the doctors advised.
