JAMMU, Jan 3: Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS) with Maj Gen SK Sharma as its president in J&K state, contributed substantially to the formulation of the National Security Policy of the country.
In April 2018, the Central Government has issued instructions to the Defence Planning Committee to formulate the National Security Strategy catering for the multiple threats the country is likely to face in future. National Security Policy will be culled out of this National Security Strategy. FANS, a very potent organization in the county was also asked to provide inputs for formulation of this policy. Accordingly, work started in the month of October 2018 and on December 27 last, it conducted a national conclave of its members named MANTHAN: National Security-A Vision. Members, who comprise of top security officials, bureaucrats, police officials, academicians, judicial personnel deliberated on various issues to frame the policy.
Gen Sharma presented paper on the 'Actions to be taken by Government to contain terrorism in J&K State'. It was well received and included in the book published by FANS which will be handed over to Defence Planning Committee for formulation of National Security Policy.
A big contingent of around 25 members from J&K represented FANS in the national conclave.
