SRINAGAR, Jan 18: Patients visiting the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital faced a tough time today as there was no water supply in the hospital and the lift system was also defective.
A group of patients while talking to Early Times said that they faced trouble as the lift system was not working in the hospital. They said the defect in the lift system meant that they had to take support of wheel chairs in order to visit the doctors at the hospital.
The SMHS hospital is the leading hospital of the associated hospitals that function under the administrative control of Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar. The hospital is visited by thousands of patients on regular basis both in the outdoor and indoor sections.
"It was no less than a shock when I came to know that the lift system is not in order at the hospital. I took the support of the wheel chair in order to reach the doctor. There was a cold shouldered response from the people at helm and they could not give any convincing answer with regards to defects in lift system," said a patient.
The patient said that there should be proper system of accountability at the hospital so that the problems being faced by patients and attendants are addressed at the proper forum. He said once this happens then problems can be solved with the patients as well as the attendants being ultimate beneficiaries.
An attendant of a patient said that there was no water supply in the washrooms with the people feeling the heat on this front as well. The attendant said that there was no response from the people who were supposed to look into the issue and take necessary corrective measures.
"I talked to some of the doctors and paramedics about the non-availability of water at the hospital. They said that they are not aware about the same and somewhat did not give any importance to this glaring problem. Since the doctors and paramedics had the water supply they were least bothered about the scarcity of water," said the attendant.
The patients and attendants said that the Governor Satya Pal Malik led state administration should ensure that all the facilities are in place at SMHS and other hospitals of Kashmir valley. They said since winter season is at peak the administration should ensure that water and heating facilities are in place.
