Farooq has an eye on Women voters
1/22/2019 10:21:00 PM
The National Conference has an eye for victory in the ensuing Assembly election and that is why its President, Dr Farooq Abdullah has promised that if the NC was voted to power it would reserve 33 per cent reservation in the state Assembly. Farooq Abdullah has said united Jammu and Kashmir was crown of India and claimed that if voted to power, their government would grant 33 per cent reservation to women in the State Assembly. "United Jammu and Kashmir is crown of the country which has to flourish as a single entity with dignity and honour," Farooq said while welcoming dozens of BJP and Congress workers in the party fold at a function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan. It is a welcome change in the mind of Farooq Abdullah when he would demand autonomy and later rested with regional autonomy.
Dr Farooq berated those wishing for the trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir meaning that Ladakh would be a separate entity like that of Jammu and Kashmir valley cautioning against elements inimical to the single entity of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq said all their machinations to create mistrust and hatred has to be foiled unitedly. The National Conference hoped people will contribute in bringing back normalcy by maintaining unity and strengthening the bonds of communal harmony.
He claimed that only a strong and stable Government can steer Jammu and Kashmir to peace, progress and development. It is an indication that National Conference alone could provide strong and stable Government if voted to power The NC wants absolute majority so that there is no need for forming a coalition Government and strong and stable Government could provide answer to all the challenges A government with absolute majority is answer to all the challenges confronting to the State.
Banking on votes from women voters Farooq has observed that political empowerment of women is necessary by ensuring reservation of seats in democratic institutions. Again if the NC is voted to power it may grant 33 per cent reservation to women in all democratic institutions including the Assembly. This an eye opener for women he may be tempted to vote for the NC. The National Conference would like to emulate Odisha where there is reservation of 33 per cent women in the Assembly. He has referred to 1996 victory in the elections and wanted people to realize the infrastructural development that NC Government could deliver because it had an absolute majority.
