| River land grab in Udhampur: Case listed before SIC on Feb 4 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 27: As the private construction company continues to grab river Devika near Udhampur , the State Information Commission (SIC) has listed this high profile river land grab case on February 4 at its Jammu office. The office of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur failed to submit the report before SIC until few days back as Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) was directed to do so during last hearing of the case on 19th December.
As reported already the State Information Commission (SIC) which has intervened into this case had directed Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur to file a report within a month' s time on the alleged land grab on Devika river at village Moudh in Udhampur. SIC in addition to other issues has sought a detailed report from the DC office about the encroachment of 45 kanals of land by a private construction company for setting up a mega stone crushing unit in the area. SIC asked ACD Udhampur how 45 kanals of land were occupied by the company while as only 10 marlas of land were actually allotted to them by Government.
As reported already by Early Times the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Udhampur who is also the designated Public Information Officer (PIO) in the office of Deputy Commissioner was summoned by the State Information Commission (SIC) on Dec 19th 2018. The officer attended the hearing before SIC as information seeker Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat Chairman Jmamu & Kashmir RTI Movement had filed a complaint against him alleging that ADC / PIO had grossly violated the RTI law and didn't provide correct information vis a vis land grab on banks of Devika river (Tawi) by a private construction company that is involved in construction and expansion of national highway from Udhampur onwards.
During the hearing, Information Commissioner was not reportedly satisfied by the arguments of PIO / ADC Udhampur as information provided to complainant on illegal occupation of land by Pvt Company Gammon India was misleading and confusing. The PIO in his RTI reply had said that 10 marlas of land was allotted to the company but during the hearing before Information Commissioner, PIO / ADC said that 45 kanals of land was under illegal occupation of company. This was viewed very seriously by SIC and that was the reason a detailed report was sought from DC office Udhampur. SIC has now listed the case on February 4th 2019 at its Jammu office. |
