Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 3: Despite several complaints lodged by a social and RTI activist at different platforms against encroachment, construction and illegal mining on 'gair mumkin khad' land at village Gandharwan in Akhnoor, the administration of Akhnoor Sub-Division has turned blind eye towards the issue.
"The matter was reported to Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akhnoor and Tehsildar Akhnoor several times through written complaints but it is utter surprise that no one takes it seriously", said the complainant adding that the administration instead of marking the complaints to subordinates has done nothing.
Sunil Kumar-a social and RTI activist while talking to Early Times said that he had lodged scores of written complaints with SDM Akhnoor and Tehsildar Akhnoor but till date no action has been taken on ground to keep check on the illegal activities of violators.
Not only this, the complainant had also lodged complaint in this regard with the governor of the state but still no action has been initiated in this regard, alleged complainant.
He further said "Illegal mining of Khad in the state has been banned by government since long but in Village Gandharwan of Tehsil Akhnoor (Khad land khasra no. 931), the illegal mining of khads is going on at very fast pace,".
He further said that this fast pace mining of the khad can cause serious threat of flood for the Panchyat Gandarwan and other nearby villages which he also mentioned in the complaint.
He further alleged that there are some stone crushers and one Tarcoal plant of GREF running in the khad which are mining the khad illegally without any permission or sanction and these crushers and Tarcoal plant are causing serious pollution threats to thousands of villagers residing there.
"All the revenue officers of the Tehsil were apprised of the matter through written complaints but none of the said officials acted on the said illegal mining of the Khad", said complainant. He further said that he had repeatedly approached the office of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akhnoor with written complaints for detailed inquiry in this matter but they never initiated any probe which vindicated their too are hand in glove.
