Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 12: Over 60 Assistant Professors posted in various colleges of Jammu province are without salaries for the last over nine months as the Higher Education department has failed to post them against regular posts, since their transfers.
Due to denial of salaries for the last nine months the faculty members have been facing pressing financial constraints.
College faculty members informed Early Times that they were transferred by the department nearly 9 months back to various colleges. "The next step of department was to transfer the overstaying professors from the colleges, but the department failed to effect transfer of overstaying professors" they said.
"At present in several colleges of Jammu city, against one post of a subject, two to three professors have been posted", sources said, adding that in all the city colleges' the staff strength was in excess to the sanctioned posts.
They further said that in most of the peripheral colleges there was huge scarcity of college professors. "The department had to transfer several overstaying professors from the city colleges to rural areas but in the meantime, some overstaying influential professors exerted pressure and got the process halted", source said.
"The department has not released the salary of the professors as they are not posted against regular posts", sources said, adding that a mess has been created in the Higher education department due to which in many city colleges, two to three faculty members have been posted against one post.
"Ultimately, the department will again transfer the less influential college faculty members to far flung areas and the influential will retain their posts in city colleges in violation of transfer policy", an official castigated, adding that Governor administration must take cognizance of the matter and strictly implement the transfer policy.
