2/24/2019 10:36:47 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 24: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) Aman Thakur and an Army jawan on Sunday was martyred in an ongoing encounter with terrorists in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. Three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) ultras have been neutralised at Tarigam village while, an Indian Army Major and three jawans are reported to be injured.
Expressing grief, J&K police officer Imtiyaz Hussain took to Twitter and posted, "We have lost a very brave J&K Police officer DySP Aman Thakur in an encounter with terrorists in Kulgam. Such an irreparable loss for J&K Police family and nation. Rest in Peace dear."
As per media reports, DySP Aman Thakur had received a bullet injury on his head and succumbed later. He was a 2011 batch KPS Officer and had been heading counter terrorism wing of J&K police in Kulgam for past 1.5 years.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said, "It is an unfortunate incident, in which we have lost a brave officer. He was a fighter and he led Sunday's operation himself."
Briefing about the encounter of terrorists, he added, "One body has been retrieved. We have information that 1-2 more militants have died. Prima facie, it was a group of militants from Jaish who were hiding somewhere after which security forces started operation."
Meanwhile, efforts are on to ascertain the identities of the neutralised terrorists. Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site.
The encounter broke out in the afternoon on Sunday after the joint team of Indian Army, CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) launched a search and cordon operation over a tip-off about 2-3 terrorists hiding in the region.
The operation comes a few days after the dastardly Pulwama terror attack in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed after a JeM ultra Adil Ahmad Dar rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a bus of the convoy of the security forces on February 14.
