Four parties fume against plan of tinkering with Article 370 and Article 35-A
3/1/2019 10:41:40 PM
Despite Dr Jitendra Singh, MOS in PMO assurance that politicians were misdleading on Article 370 and Article 35-A Four mainstream political parties, the PDP, the Congress and the National Conference besides Peoples' Conference, continue to oppose any tinkering with Article 370 and Article 35-A. Even the President of the PDP, Mehbooba Mufti, has cautioned that any tampering with these Articles, 370 and 35-A, may render the Instrument of Accession null and void. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has said any tinkering with Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution, which provide special status to Jammu and Kashmir, would render null and void the state's Instrument of Accession with India. "Article 370 is the constitutional connection between J&K & Indian Union. Instrument of accession is contingent on Article 370 which is inextricably linked to Article 35A. Any tampering will render Treaty of Accession null & void," Mehbooba said in a series of tweets. She said Valley is rife with speculation about the status of Article 35A.
"Before taking a decision, GoI (Government of India) must consider that J&K was the only Muslim-majority state that chose a secular India over Pak during partition," she added. Mehbooba cautioned that Kashmiris should not be blamed for the developments if the special provision was scrapped. "Those frothing at the mouth & calling for its removal shouldn't blame Kashmiris for the developments that will follow such a hare-brained decision," she said Meanwhile the state unit of the in case any tinkering was mader with Article 370 and Article 35-A may result in alienation of people.
The State Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir has said that any tinkering with the special status of J&K would further alienate the people. "BJP should not even think about touching Art 35A), which grants special privileges to residents of the State," Mir said. He said BJP, which has lost the ground miserably, was trying to mislead people to gain mileage under the garb of tinkering with special status of the State. "It will prove to be disastrous." Mir said the special status granted to J&K is a settled issue. "Any misadventure with regard to Art 35 will further deepen the alienation among the people and it will set on fire the entire J&K". He said BJP on the behest of RSS and other communal forces seems hellbent upon to tinker with the Art 35 A. "We caution BJP that fallout of any tinkering with Article 35A will be disastrous and disturbing. Nothing can be achieved by tinkering with the special status of the State," he said. Views similar to Mir and Mehbooba have been repeated by Omar Abdullah. Already the separatists plan to create an issue. Sajjad Lone of peoples' Conference has views similar to Mir.
