4 Security personnel martyred in encounter with militants at Babagund-Langate

SRINAGAR, Mar 1: At least four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred in an encounter with militants at Babagund, Langate-Handwara in the border district of Kupwara today.
Reports said that one among the slain CRPF personnel was an Inspector. In the incident eight other persons including a commandant of the CRPF were injured in the incident. The encounter was going on when this report was filed.
Reports said that when a joint search team of police, CRPF and army went to retrieve the militant bodies amid a lull, one of the two militants, earlier believed to be dead stood up and fired indiscriminately leading to injuries to CRPF Inspector, a policeman and five other security forces personnel including army soldiers who were removed to hospital.
Among the injured, the paramilitary Inspector namely Pintoo of 92 BN CRPF and the policeman of SOG Handwara namely Naseer Ahmad succumbed to wounds, they said. A fresh gunfight startred between the security forces and the militant in which a CRPF commandant, one paramilitary personnel and a policeman were injured along with two more soldiers.
All these injured were evacuated to military hospital, two of them-one CRPF personnel and the policeman-succumbed to their injuries. The condition of CRPF commandant is stated to be serious. The encounter broke out during midnight after the joint team of army's 22 RR, 92 Battalion CRPF and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation at Khanan Babagund in Langate.
Meanwhile, clashes broke out near the encounter site between the secuity forces and the youth. In the action of security forces at least four youth were injured, three of them have suffered pellet injuries while one received injuries in his foot. All the injured were taken to district hospital Handwara for treatment.
Unconfirmed reports said that three civilians were killed in the action of security forces. However the same was not confirmed by the officials as yet. Intense clashes were going on in the area with the groups of youth enagged in ding dong battles with the police and security forces.
In the meantime, police today claimed that it arrested a militant from the Bone & Joints Hospital, Barzulla here. A police spokesman said that based on a specific input regarding movement of a suspected person near Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla, a special team of Srinagar Police apprehended a person.
"On his questioning he disclosed his identity as Showket Ahmed Khan S/O Abdul Hamid Khan R/O Aarth-Narbal Budgam, associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (a banned militant organization). His code name is Aumer Bhai," said the spokesman.
The spokesman said that the said person is involved in FIR No.73/2018 U/S 392 RPC, 7/25 Arms Act, 3 PEPO Act registered at P/S Rajbagh Srinagar. Further questioning of the arrested accused is going on so as to advance the investigation in the case.
