Two HM militants killed in encounter at Tral

Srinagar, Mar 5: Two militants owing allegiance to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed in an encounter with police and security forces at Tral in South Kashmir's Pulwama district today.
Reports said that police and security forces cordoned off the Reshipora village in Tral following inputs that some militants are hiding in the village. As the village was cordoned off the militants hiding there fired upon the police and security forces. The fire was returned and as such as a full-fledged started between the two sides.
A joint team of army's 42RR, 180 CRPF and SOG cordoned off the suspected spot after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.
The encounter started in the Monday night and it culminated this morning with the death of two militants. The militants owed their allegiance to HM and both of them were locals. Clashes broke out between the agitating youth and police as well as security forces as soon as the encounter ended. A civilian sustained injuries in the clashes.
A police spokesman said that based on a credible input about the presence ofmilitants in the Reshipora area of Tral in district Awantipora, a cordon and search operation was jointly launched yesterday evening by police and security forces in the area.
"As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight. In the ensuing encounter two militants were killed and the bodies were recovered from the site of encounter," said the police spokesman.
The two killed militants have been identified as Adfar Fayaz Parray son of Fayaz Ahmad Parray resident of Gulshanpora Tral and Irfan Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Hassan Rather resident of Shariefabad Tral.
The civilian injured in the clashes has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Malik resident of Tral. He was shifted to hospital for medical treatment and stated to be stable.
According to the police records, the slain militants were affiliated with proscribed militant outfit HM. They were involved in conspiring and executing several militant attacks and were wanted by the law for their complicity in a series of crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities. Several crime cases were registered against them for their terrorist activities.
Arms & ammunition including rifles were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror cases.
Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
