Decade on, Health Deptt fails to advertise dental posts

Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 5: Thanks to lethargy of the health department which forgot to advertise dental posts for a decade, thousands of dental surgeons are moving from pillar to post to earn a livelihood.
Pertinently, a proposal for the creation of dentist posts in the state had been made by the officials of the department some years ago but the posts could not be advertised to this day for unknown reasons.
A delegation of dental surgeons told Early Times about department's failure to advertise posts for more than a decade.
Severely criticising the department, the group said that the last appointments of dental surgeons were made in 2008. "After lapse of four years, things seemed moving in the right direction in 2012 but to this day nothing has happened, " the group lamented.
The group said that there are more than 3000 BDS degree holders in the State who have been waiting for their appointment in government hospitals for the last many years. The group also said that the authorities have given no explanation for the unwarranted delay.
There is an acute shortage of dentists in hundreds of government hospitals across the state due to which the oral health care has remained causality. People have to travel long distances and spend large sums on dental consultations.
Principal Secretary H&ME Atal Dulloo was not available for comment.
