Early Times Report
srinagar, Mar 5: National Conference is 'desperate for power' can be gauged from the fact that it has betrayed the sacrifices of hundreds of party workers and leaders by siding with the banned radical group Jammat-e-Islami.
The armed wing of Jammat-e-Islami is Hizb-ul-Mujahdeen and this militant group is accused of having killed hundreds of National Conference workers and leaders since 1990.
Since 1990, according to details 13,979 civilians have been killed in 22,794 incidents by militant groups.
Those keeping an eye on counter insurgency operations in Kashmir say that majority of the civilians killed since 1990 were affiliated with National Conference and Congress.
"Our 3200 hundreds workers were killed by the militant groups," A National Conference Leader told Early Times.
At least nine legislators including sitting ministers affiliated with National conference were killed by militants during the turmoil by attacking their residences with hand grenades or by shooting them.
Prominent among those include Former MLA Tral Mohd Subhan Bhat and two sons, Former MLA Ghulam Qadir Neloora and his son who was also a legislator. Sheikh Mansoor of Shopain, Ghulam Nabi Dar, former MLA Kulgam, Wali Mohd Itoo former MLA DH Pora and Speaker. Ghulam Hassan Bhat, who was a minister when he was killed, Peer Mohd Shafi of Srinagar, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone of Lolab Kupwara.
However, instead of welcoming the decision of Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, National Conference condemned it to get the support of a group of that believes in countering the political opponent by killing its innocent workers.
Undermining the sacrifices of party colleagues and workers, Omar Abdullah allowed party leaders to stage protests against the ban and even allowed them raise anti-India slogans.
National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah said that the ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami "is having a major social impact" in Kashmir and appealed to the government to "urgently review" its decision to seal schools and mosques run by it.
The central government put a ban on the Jamat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir last week under anti-terror law on grounds that it was "in close touch" with militant outfits and was expected to "escalate secessionist movement" in the state.
