JKMSCL gives up, GMC&H asked to complete pending work
H1N1 Testing Lab in Jammu still a distant dream
3/12/2019 11:34:23 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited has failed to establish H1N1 Laboratory in Government Medical College and hospital after the lapse of 4 years and it may take another year to make the much needed lab functional.
Pertinently, in the year 2014-15, Swine Flu broke out in the State as more than a dozen people died of this disease as reports had taken so much time to reach the doctors. Since then, the concerned department had announced to establish two labs in the state for timely diagnosis but the same could not be operational in Jammu so far.
Official sources told Early Times that on the very next day of approving two labs by the State cabinet, the Planning and Development Department had released Rs 6.30 crore in favour of Health and Medical Education Department (H&ME) for establishing H1N1 testing facility at GMC Jammu and another Rs 5.63 crore for Srinagar which was made functional.
"Moreover, the cost of the project is also escalated and GMC authority was blaming the officials of the JKMSCL for not establishing the same on time due to the lackadaisical approach of the concerned authorities," sources stated adding that after prolonged delay on part of concerned administration, the Corporation had given up and asked GMC for completion of reaming works of the lab, which were entrusted to the same company which had established the lab in Srinagar.
After taking over the proposal, GMC Jammu sought additional funds to complete the pending works of the lab and they blamed JKMSCL for escalation of the cost and the proposal of additional funds is pending with concerned authorities. "The order of procurement of the machinery and other required items has yet not been made due to which it might take another year to make the lab functional, "sources added.
Managing Director, JKMSCL Shiv Kumar Gupta was not available for comment.
